General PTA Meeting
March 3, 2013
The meeting was called to order by Pres. Paul Beatty at 6:35. Notes taken by B Hawthorne.
Review of the agenda.
Minutes from the November meeting – Motion to approve. Motion carries. Minutes approved.
Updates from Ms. Curry:
Session with IB consultant for faculty and interested parents went well. Consultant’s feedback is that we are ahead of the curve for the process right now.
Brief of IB benefits. Can find much on changing workplace, and IB will help prepare our children for it. Shift from linear thinking to innovation. Referenced
Kudos to: Destination Imagination – Mr. Bennet’s team made selection for state competition. Harry Stone Girl Scout troop has a creation on display at the Perot Museum. Harry Stone has a winner of this year’s Bobby Bragan scholarship. 2 Harry Stone 5th grade students were chosen to participate in DISD’s Destination 2020. Congratulations to this year’s Teachers/teacher assistant of the year.
Performance by Ms. Scott’s Stone Singers. They will be competing at Sandy Lake again this spring. Quaqua(?) Festival. Spring Concert will be mid May.
Upcoming events: Family Fun Night, March 22, 6-8:30 PM. Volunteers are needed. Talk to any PTA Board member. Classes will be putting together baskets of items for the silent auction – watch your Thursday folders for information on the themes.
STAR Testing will be the first week in April. More coming.
Staff from Reasoning Minds (math website used by the district for 2nd and 3rd graders) joined us to provide an overview. Web based, with 24 hour/7 day access from home, as well as at school. Handout for parents. Discussed use and advantages in accelerating math learning.
